Jehovah's Witnesses and Education - old foes
by EdenOne ini was skimming through old numbers of the watchtower and came across this interesting bit.
under the headline "ungodliness and discontent", the article claims:.
"[...] we have more than once called attention to in these columns, namely, that the spread of education, and increase of wealth, are not tending to make mankind happier, holier or more content, but rather the reverse.

Judge sanctions WTS - $4k per day penalty for not producing sex abuse documents
by Simon injudge sanctions jehovah's witnesses.
imposes $4000-a-day penalty for not producing documents in sex-abuse case.
by dorian hargrove, june 24, 2016. a san diego superior court judge has ordered the church of jehovah's witnesses, also known as the watchtower bible and tract society of pennsylvania, to pay $4000 a day for every day that it fails to produce documents requested in a civil lawsuit brought by former parishioner, osbaldo padron, who claims a church elder sexually abused him when he was seven years old.. in a june 23 ruling, expected to be made final today, judge richard strauss admonished the church for willfully ignoring a court order to produce all documents associated with a 1997 body of elders letter that church leaders sent to parishes around the world in a quest to learn about sexual abuse of children by church leaders.. over the course of the past year, the watchtower society and its lawyers have fought hard to keep the letter confidential, claiming that turning over the documents would infringe on the privacy of those mentioned in the letter that were not associated with the case.. in march 2015, the church turned over a heavily redacted version of the letter.

@problemaddict,
Al lot of BOE's including the 1997 child abuse letter: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qynoqttqpo30nx4/1905-2015-BOE-File.pdf?dl=0
But I guess the court is looking for letters that the congregation sent back to WT HQ in reply to the BOE letter.
Those letters would show they knew they had a child abuser in their midst....and they did nothing about it.This letter is almost certain to never be leaked, as it is sent from a congregation to HQ.

@problemaddict,
There is a french site with an offline library of BOE letters, available upon request.
By the looks of it they do have the 1997 child abuse letter.

What kind of teeth does this San Diego court have to MAKE Watchtower pay the bill?
If it doesn't have the authority to MAKE Watchtower hand over the document (well, it hasn't been able to thus far),.... what would be the next step for this court?In most civilized countries the courts will first ask parties to comply, then they'll start with monetary punishment...and finally they might take uncooperating parties 'hostage' in jail until they comply....so Watchtower Inc. officials might even end up there...

“The court sets a status conference for July 22, 2016 to hear from the parties whether the monetary sanctions have been effective.”
So, if this doesn't work they'll up the ante...

BTW if I recall correctly this is only the first level of multiple levels of enforcing WT to comply with court orders.
From the top of my head:
[edit]
I may be confusing multiple court cases. Can anyone confirm or deny what I wrote below?
[/edit]- Court orders WT to produce documents
- WT refuses
- Court puts a $13.5 million punishment on WT
- WT appeals
- Appeal court agrees with lower court that WT should produce documents, but rules that first lower level instruments should be used to make WT comply with the court order
- Case is referred back to lower court
- Lower court uses first level instrument to make WT comply: a $4k per day punishment.
So, if WT continues to refuse to listen to and obey the court, they will not be blessed. More punishment will be coming their way...

Why the Bible cannot be the work of an all-wise God that epitomizes love.
by Island Man inthere's simply no way to honestly deny that the ot condones genocide, slavery and misogyny.
there are too many passage showing yahweh commanding his people to wipe out this nation and that nation - women and innocent children included!
it leaves us with a god who wrote a book that very, very, very much seems like it condones genocide, but it doesn't, etc.. what kind of god does that?

Wheres PERRY ?
Perry acts like his fairy Sky Daddy: all in your face annoying the hell out of you when it suits them, but conveniently disappearing when 'tough' questions are asked...
